2ND /3RD GRADE NEWS
RIVERGATE ADVENTIST ELEMENTARY
November 20, 2009
Dear Parents,
Our class has been really busy this week. We have been learning about the First Thanksgiving and we read stories about what makes Thanksgiving special. The students made hand turkeys and we talked about the things they are thankful for in their lives.
During the week after Thanksgiving, we will be focusing on the LIFESKILL of Appreciation. We will be learning the importance of showing others thanks and giving value to the things our friends and family go out of their way to do for us each day.
You will find a Winter Adventures Schedule for 2010, included in the homework folder. You will also find an attached permission form for you to fill in and return after Thanksgiving break. Hopefully we won’t have any changes in the schedule, but this will depend on whether or not we have any snow days this year. I wanted to give parents plenty of time to make arrangements to be able to assist us with transport and being a chaperone. Please keep the schedule somewhere safe. Reminders will be sent out after Christmas break, closer to the Adventure time. We have been asked to only have 3 Winter Adventures this year, so as to limit the number of days that students are out of school, and to save money.
There will be no homework for the Thanksgiving break. Students can continue reading and practicingtheir times tables. They should be working on the 2, 3, & 4 times tables. They can also do any re-do work and have it ready for Thursday, December 4th. The 2nd graders are working on Time in math and the 3rd graders will be doing this chapter soon. Students have made a clock to keep at home, to help them practice telling time. This has been included in the Homework folder. Please help your students to practice telling time using an analogue watch, as well as a digital watch. A new spelling list and memory verse will be handed out to students on the Monday they return from Thanksgiving break. Tests will be on the usual days. I hope you and your family will enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! God bless and safe travels.
Yours sincerely,
Ms. Sharilyn Smith
